An Extensive Examination of My Hero Academia's : THE Big Three
In the world of My Hero Academia, or MHA, it harbours the people gifted with outstandingsuperpowers known as quirks. Between the throngs of heroes and students schooling to become professional heroes, three genius students at U.A. High School are headlined as the best-of-the-best of their class: known as "The Big Three", they are Mirio Togata, Tamaki Amajiki, and Nejire Hado.
These three third-year students stand out due to their extraordinary abilities, skills, and even more so, personalities. Let's take a deeper look into each member of The Big Three, their quirks, and what makes them stand out in the My Hero Academia universe.
1. Mirio Togata (Lemillion) Quirk: Percolation
Quirk: Permeation.
The most typical representation of The Big Three probably is Mirio Togata, who calls himself the hero "Lemillion." Mirio is characterized by his optimistic psychology and tenacity of will, remarkable for phenomenal control of his quirk, Permeation. When superficially viewed, his quirk would appear a lot more of a curse than any gift. The permeation allows Mirio to phase through solid objects, but with a huge side effect: while using it, all his senses are cut off. This even includes sight, hearing, and a sense of touch. Furthermore, when he is unable to manage the timing correctly concerning activation as well as deactivation of his quirk, then he gets swallowed by the ground or stuck into the walls.
Mastery Over Permeation:
Mirio's quirk may have its weakness, but it is an epitome of what determination and hard work can do. He spent years perfecting the quirk that he transformed from a presently ordinary to all-around versatile and deadly capacity in combat. Due to its selective phasing through parts of his body, it can avoid attacks easily, move at high speeds, and surprise opponents.
One of his signature moves, "Phantom Menace," allows him to phase in and out so quickly as if he is teleported from one location to the next.
Character & Heroism:
Mirio's greatest attribute would be his personality. He never stops smiling and makes others push their limits and inspires people never to give up. In a way, his aim of saving one million people as a pro hero — thus the nickname "Lemillion" — epitomizes his desire to protect others. His mentor, Sir Nighteye, even thought at one time that Mirio might be the successor to All Might regarding the legendary quirk, One For All, because of his heroic spirit.
It is within that context, during the Shie Hassaikai arc, that Mirio suffers from one of the most terrific calamities in MHA, losing his quirk in the process of trying to save Eri - a little girl at risk with Izuku modirya his junior, friend and Class 1-A student at U.A High who become the greatest hero in the history oh heroism . Even without a quirk, Mirio exhibits no signs of defeat while fighting and standing tall as a real hero.
2. Tamaki Amajiki (Suneater)
Quirk: Manifest
Tamaki Amajiki, also known as Suneater by some, is endowed with the quirk known as Manifest: the change in parts of his body according to what he eats. If he eats an octopus, his arms turn to tentacles; his arms become clam shells in the form of defense if he eats clams. His quirk provides him with incredible versatility, making him quite adaptable in combat situations as he can prepare himself based on the food he consumes.
Complexity of Manifest:
The strategic beauty about Manifest is its possibilities. Tamaki can mix and match the attributes of a variety of different foods, use multiple forms at once to maximize his offensive and defensive potential all at once. For instance, he can combine an octopus's tentacles for reach, crab claws for sheer brute strength, and clamshells for protection. Such ingenuity with his quirk makes him a dangerous and unpredictable foe.
Shy & Self-Doubting Nature:
Quite ironically, though Tamaki has very impressive powers, his shy nature and crippling anxiety tend to overshadow his strength at times. He is always doubting his abilities and lacks faith in himself, though his friends at U.A. High School consider him one of the strongest students there. His shyness and social anxiety create obstacles for him in his work as a hero; however, with the guidance of his friends, especially Mirio, Tamaki gradually overcame his fears and insecurities in time.
Tamaki's hero name is Suneater, which reflects his character and powerful quirk. He is inspired by Mirio's optimism and perceives him as the "sun," while he believes he is "someone who eats the sun" — someone that gets strength from those around him to shine in his own light.
3. Nejire Hado (Nejire-chan)
Quirk: Wave Motion
Completing The Big Three is Nejire Hado, a character known as Nejire-chan, with her quirk that represents her affectionate and curious personality. Her quirk is Wave Motion, whereby she condenses her vitality into powerful energy blasts within these spiraling waves. They are extremely strong but one thing that hinders their power is that they need to time themselves to lead off before firing. Nevertheless, Nejire's quirk makes her arguably one of the strongest students in U.A. High School.
Mastery of Wave Motion:
She can fly as well as fire off powerful and wide-range attacks using her energy waves. Her mastery is also phenomenally high because she can manipulate the energy into spirals and control the strength output. It does take a lot of stamina and isn't instantaneous in its application, but it does make Nejire a pretty good force in long-range combat.
Personality:
As much as Nei Rei is bubbly, talkative, and full of questions, this puts her at odds with Tamaki, who is introverted; however, she complements Mirio's positive outlook. She is always asking questions, constantly curious about the world around her, and showing keen interest in how quirks work. This curiosity helps her better understand and utilize her quirk by asking the right question about its strength and weakness.
Her vivacious nature makes her a leader and a character that others easily identify themselves with; the otherwise scatterbrained tendency does not affect her because of her deep concern for her friends and her willingness to learn.
