Class 1-B: U.A. High's Best Kept Secret
Class 1-B might not reach the same fame as Class 1-A, but My Hero Academia has some kids pack a lot of talent and determination into themselves. Given what their homeroom teacher Sekijiro Kan puts them through during pro hero training, they grow incredibly large, showing fantastic potential, which gives more than a few different students with unique Quirks that they prove again and again are not to be underestimated. This is Class 1-B and what makes them special.
1. Itsuka Kendo (Battle Fist)
Quirk: Big Fist
Kendo is able to stretch her fists to enormous proportions, making her boast with strength that is simply superhuman. The class rep, she has natural leadership qualities. Calm, intelligent, and reliable, Kendo often acts as the voice of reason among classmates, especially someone like Neito Monoma.
2. Neito Monoma
Quirk: Copy
Monoma's Quirk is the ability to copy the Quirks of others for a limited time. Boastful and antagonistic
toward Class 1-A, Monoma is very strategic and uses his abilities wisely during combat and training.
3. Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu
Quirk: Steel
Tetsutetsu can turn his entire body to steel, making him exceptionally sturdy and powerful. He is a blunt and hot-blooded boy and very much resembles Eijiro Kirishima of Class 1-A. Both the boys are friendly rivals.
4. Ibara Shiozaki (Vine)
Quirk: Vines
Shiozaki can make her hair into a vine-like structure. She uses it to grab the attackers, protect herself, or hit from a distance. Her quiet, graceful personality contrasts with her deadly Quirk in battle.
5. Juzo Honenuki (Mudman)
Quirk: Softening
Honenuki can turn any object which is not living into spongy, soft one, so he can manage to change the real earth into quicksand. His brain and Quirk helped him to take a strategic role in the tactical battles of the story as well as seen in the Joint Training Arc.
6. Kinoko Komori (Shemage)
Quirk: Mushroom
Komori can spread spores that create mushrooms on any surface, even on her opponents. Even though her Quirk seems very quirky she's a great asset to govern the field and confuse enemies.
7. Setsuna Tokage (Lizardy)
Quirk: Lizard Tail Splitter
Tokage can break up her body into portions and manipulate them from a distance. As such, she has tremendous mobility and therefore is difficult to attack. Being a student of recommendation, Tokage was mighty fine at what she did and confident of doing it.
8. Yosetsu Awase (Welder)
Quirk: Weld
Awase can join things molecularly, and he creatively uses this to do tactical attacks. He thinks fast and is sometimes of great help in rescue efforts or big attacks.
9. Kosei Tsuburaba
Quirk: Solid Air
Tsuburaba can form solid walls or barriers out of air and is very strong in terms of defense and support. His Quirk is useful in forming temporary platforms or shields for his teammates .
10. Manga Fukidashi
Quirk: Comedian
Fukidashi can create onomatopoeia (sound effects) in the form of a physical structure. He can create enormous "Boom!" or "Pow!" marks which he employs as blunt weapons or ammunition.
11. Shihai Kuroiro (Vantablack)
Quirk: Black
Kuroiro can take the shape of a void of any black, and he can disappear into shadows or slide through them without leaving a trail. Dark and stealthy, Shihai constitutes a very deadly player in close operations.
12. Hiryu Rin (Dragon Shroud)
Quirk: Scales
Rin can grow hard scales on his body, which he can shoot out at enemies for use as projectiles or use for armor.
He has a Quirk that includes offense and defense changes.
13. Pony Tsunotori
Quirk: Horn Cannon
Tsunotori can launch her horns and use them to fire at targets; she also controls them and can use them as projectiles to boost herself into the air, thus winning an advantage in the air too.
14. Jurota Shishida (Gevaudan)
Quirk: Beast
Shishida can transform into a large, monstrous size that provides him with additional strength, velocity and senses. He appears unruly and savage but is, in fact mentally astute and composed most of the time with a sharp strategy in his head.
15. Kojiro Bondo (Plamo)
Quirk: Cemedine
Bondo can put out a glue like substance from his head which hardens to adamant within few seconds, traps enemies or forms walls on the perimeter of defense. His adhesiveness power makes him very effective in holding opponents or even in securing reinforcements.
16. Reiko Yanagi (Emily)
Quirk: Poltergeist
Yanagi is capable of telekinesis, but she has limitations of only being able to lift objects up to a certain weight. Her Quirk provides her with an excellent control over the environment, and she uses it with imagination in combat.
17. Togaru Kamakiri (Jack Mantis)
Quirk: Razor Sharp
Kamakiri can be capable of producing sharp blades from his body, hence becoming a good close-combat fighter. He fights aggressively as perfectly matched with his sharp personality.
18. Sen Kaibara
Quirk: Gyrate
Kaibara can spin any body part at super high speeds, turning limbs into drills. He is excellent in close combat, punching and drilling through challenges or into the opponent with the help of his Quirk.
19. Yui Kodai
Quirk: Size
Kodai can change the size of objects she touches into a smaller or bigger size. Her short-tempered, passive personality covers her good potential in combat as well as for support.
20. Miner Nirengeki Shoda
Quirk: Twin Impact
Shoda can deliver a second, additional impact to any blow or object he's already struck. This power allows him to increase the damage of his attacks, hence giving him tremendous offensive power.
Growth of Class 1-B and Competition with Class 1-A
Class 1-B, often mired in the shadow of Class 1-A, always has a proven track record and drive. The Joint Training Arc is the period when these students come of age, showcasing their skills in head-to-head battle scenarios against 1-A students. The Quirk arsenal of most students in Class 1-B is often versatile and exceptional enough to nearly reach the strategic teaming that one expects from Class 1-A.
Although characters like Neito Monoma keep the rivalry between both classes lively with his shenanigans, it is pretty apparent that both classes respect each other and are trying to push each other upwards. One can clearly see that Class 1-B has put itself on a path for growth, training, and all the better to become future pro heroes, embodying the spirit of U.A. High.
Conclusion: The Underdog Heroes of Tomorrow
Class 1-B rarely ever calls much attention to themselves, but they are a very worthy force. From their unique Quirks all the way through to actually thinking before acting and discussing strategy for team-centered actions, Class 1-B students are as good or even better than any training hero. Class 1-B continues to demonstrate development with strong leadership from Itsuka Kendo and the eccentric but talented Neito Monoma as they prepare for their day when they, too, will stand as pro heroes alongside Class 1-A.
